Usually when there is a lot of pealing paint, prior to power washing the house all loose paint needs to be scraped by hand. Scraping loose paint by hand will serve two purposes. It will prevent loose paint to end up all over the property during power washing and also help insure that no areas are missed. After scraping the paint, the house can be power washed and possibly scarped again if any more paint is loose after coming in contact with water. All small chips of paint can be picked up at the end of the painting process during the clean up. What type of material is best to be used for fixing cracks? It all depends on the size of the cracks and the surface. Small hairline cracks are easiest to fix using elastomeric patch, which is a compound that can be applied with a brush. Elastomeric patch can be used for most surfaces. For medium size cracks regular latex caulk is preferred. For larger cracks a general purpose MH compound can be a good choice. For large cracks in wood, bondo may work out better than other materials. For large cracks in concrete or stucco, a stucco patch that is sold in the form of powder may work well. There is no correct answer to which material to use. There is a variety of different materials on the market right now. Each painter uses materials that worked out the best for him in the past.
